Insights into the substrate of the Princess Elizabeth Zone

Discover the WindSoil, ClayTectonics, and FISSCK projects during a focused masterclass on the specific substrate of the Princess Elizabeth Zone, an important area for offshore wind development.

Join us on 21 November 2024 in Ghent for a day of insightful presentations and networking with colleagues across multiple geo-research initiatives in Ghent. Learn more about three projects that aim to provide a deeper understanding of how substrates impact the stability and durability of wind turbine foundations. These insights will ultimately result in better design standards for offshore wind developments.

The following projects will be addressed:

  • WindSoil investigates how cyclic loads affect monopile foundation durability;
  • FISSCK examines the strength of clays within the Kortrijk formation, essential for stable foundations.
  • Clay Tectonics explores the extent to which clay tectonic deformations should be considered in the design and construction of offshore wind farms along the Belgian coast.
